NXP Semiconductors Kinetis L Series Arm Cortex-M0+ Microcontrollers are an entry-level 32-bit MCU family built on the Arm Cortex-M0+ core. The Kinetis L Series combines exceptional energy efficiency and ease-of-use with the performance, peripheral sets, enablement and scalability of the Kinetis 32-bit MCU portfolio, while leveraging the inherent low-power and high-performance features of the Arm Cortex architecture. Manufactured using NXP's low-leakage, 90nm thin film storage (TFS) process technology, the Kinetis L series frees power-critical designs from 8- and 16-bit MCU limitations by combining excellent dynamic and stop currents with superior processing performance. A broad selection of on-chip flash memory densities and extensive analog, connectivity and HMI peripheral options enable increased energy efficiency and intelligence for a range of applications, including battery-operated devices, medical systems, smart meters and motor control systems.
Kinetis KL8x MCUs
NXP Semiconductors Kinetis KL8x Microcontrollers are ultra-low power MCUs with enhanced security to support point-of-sale (POS) and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Kinetis KL8x MCUs feature a 72MHz Arm® Cortex®-M0+ core with 128KB flash memory and 96KB SRAM. An integrated QuadSPI interface supports connections to non-volatile memory (serial NOR). The KL8x MCUs consume as little as 125µA/MHz in run mode. In sleep mode, the MCUs operate down to 272nA with RAM and RTC retained. The enhanced security features include true random number generator, tamper detection, and low-power trusted crypto engine supporting 3DES, AES, DES, SHA, RSA, and ECC. The MCUs also offer symmetric cryptographic acceleration and full-speed USB 2.0 On-The-Go (OTG), including options for crystal-less device functionality. The crystal-less USB OTG controller, 16-bit ADC, and multiple serial communication interfaces function autonomously in low-power modes with minimal CPU intervention. The hardware asymmetric cryptography offers high-speed, code- and power-efficient data authentication with support for latest encryption protocols. Thanks to their high performance, ultra-low power operation, and encryption/tamper detection features, the KL8x MCUs can support more power-restricted POS payment applications. These power-restricted payment options include smartphone and tablet attach readers, as well as payment methods embedded in wearable technology.
