what I have found is these "STC" label chips need a large increase in value of the capacitors on the crystal (150-220pf) to make them close to accurate, The "Atmel" label chips that used to be in these clock kits were great, but some seem to have been replaced with chips that are labeled "Nuvoton" which are complete rubbish kits, unless one like a clock that gains several minutes a week? who knows if any are original? even the firmware?
