USB Interface Vinculum Host Controller ICs: FTDI Chip USB Interface and Vinculum Host Controller ICs are a USB-to-serial UART interface. These interfaces are available with optional clock generator output, FTDIChip-ID™ security dongle features, and asynchronous and synchronous bit-bang interface modes. USB-to-serial designs using the FT232R are further simplified by fully integrating the external EEPROM, clock circuit, and USB resistors onto the device. The FT245R offers the same features with an 8-bit parallel FIFO interface. All FTDI USB-UART and USB-FIFO ICs utilize their royalty-free virtual COM port (VCP) and direct (D2XX) drivers, eliminating the requirement for USB driver development in most cases.
